Triang DH/8

Windows

DH/8 Front Panel

There are 5 metal windows, the windows are attached to the front panel with small pins/nail in each corner.

DH/8 Windows

The windows and glass have been removed, four of them are in fair condition, one is very bent.  They will need repainting as the frames should be brown.

The reverse side of the windows also need treating to prevent the rust getting worse.

DH8 Window

I think it will be very difficult to straighten out this window, as the metal has stretched and will not lie flat.

DH/8 Windows

This is a piece of the glass from one of the windows, it is definitely not child friendly, look at that jagged edge.  The glass was held in behind the frame with 2 small nails.

DH8 Window

It is hard to see, but there are two tiny nails top and bottom to hold in glass.

Window Frame Repair

DH8 Window

This is the window that needs to be repaired, as you can see it is quite badly bent.  Once the paint was removed, I attempted to straighten out the window frame, but the metal had stretched so much, it would not go flat.

DH8 Window Cut

The frame needs to be cut and then soldered back together, this is something new for me.  So a bit of trial and error.

DH8 Window Solder

The window frame has been soldered together, it just needs to be sanded back into shape.

DH8 Window Repair

Well I am quite pleased with the result, I think I have done the best I can.

Window Frame Painting

DH8 Window The window have now been stripped of paint and repaired [There should be five windows, one didn’t turn up for the photo shoot.] DH8 Window Cream I have spray painted the windows with off white paint. The windows are resting on drawing pins so they do not stick to the cardboard. DH8 Window Once the paint on the windows was dry, it was time to paint the frames.  I have carefully put masking tapes around the edges to make a straight line. DH8 Window The frames are now complete, I am quite pleased with the outcome.
