Triang, Spot On, Jenny’s Home Dining Room

Triang Spot-On

Triang Spot On furniture was produced in 1960.  The style of this furniture being the late 1950’s The furniture made from moulded plastic and metal.  It was sold in individual boxes, with the ‘Triang’ and ‘Spot On’ Logos, on a pink and cream box.  The Range also included ‘Dollies Home’ introduced in 1962, which consisted mainly of room sets.  The boxes they were sold in were printed to represent the room, kitchen, bedroom etc. The ‘Triang’, ‘Spot On’ and ‘Dollies Home’ range continued until 1964.

Jenny’s Home

As fashion and style move on so did Triang and in 1964, they launched a new range of furniture in collaboration with ‘Homes and Gardens’ magazine.  This co-insided with the introduction of the ‘Jenny’s Home ‘ Room Boxes, many of them came ready furnished and could be joined together.  Much of the furniture of the ‘Triang’ ‘ Spot On Range’, either changed in style or bright modern colours.  Being made now completely of plastic, with the removal of the metal fittings.  The packaging also changed with a move away from pink to blue, yellow, red and orange. With a smart new logo in a red and pink heart, with Jenny’s Home in the middle, and the words ‘the home that g-r-o-w-s around it. Individual items and small room sets, now on  blister pack cards and room sets in plastic covered square flat boxes.

 

 

Exit the cluttered Victorian doll’s house of our parents, and  the austere prefabrication of post-war days.  Here at last is a doll’s dream of stylish living.  Shown here is Tri-ang’s delightful colour combination in an up-to-the-minute doll’s dining suite.  Contrasting sideboard and draw-leaf dining table are enhanced by the graceful upholstery of dining chairs.  All of these are expertly carried out in zinc weighed injection moulded plastic.

This G Plan dining table has a section in the middle, and the table slides together making it smaller.  The plastic top is made to represent walnut, and has a metal black frame and legs.  The middle section fits neatly under the table when not in use.

With the introduction of the new Jenny’s Home range, the out dated dining room table and chairs was replaced with a more traditional look.  Now made completely of brown moulded plastic, to represent wood.

The table also came in a lighter shade of brown, this is very similar to the colour of the piano, and the Jenny’s Home bookcase.  There must be some chairs of a similar colour.

 

DINING ROOM CHAIRS 1001

These chairs come in various colours, turquoise, red, pink, light blue, purple, orange and cream, all have metal legs. You can see from the picture above that the middle chair has thicker legs than the others, making this a later model.  The moulded plastic seat is meant to represent leather.

The Triang boxes are a very tight fit, so it is surprising that many survived at all.

Notice the legs on the red dining room chair are not so pointed as the earlier ones.

Jenny’s Home range Dining Room chairs, replaced the Triang chairs 1001, a simplier more modern style.  The dangerous pointed metal legs were now a thing of the past.

 

SIDEBOARD 1002

This sideboard was a reflection of furniture of the period based on G Plan range.  The doors and drawers on the Sideboard open. This piece carried on into the Jenny’s range of furniture with the black frame-work changing from metal to plastic.

It is amazing that the dining room consists of just three pieces of furniture, although the chairs did come in lots of colours.

Jenny’s Home Sideboard, has  lost its G Plan style, and is now a more simpler, modern  piece of furniture.  As you can see from the picture above, there are now shelves in the left-hand cupboard.
